 Why We Built This


We created StarterBud™ to solve a problem that too many dog parents face: feeling lost, stressed, and unprepared at the exact moment they should be celebrating.


I know the feeling personally. When I adopted my dog, I spent five hours at the shelter trying to make the right choice—and by the time I signed the paperwork, every pet store in town was closing. I didn’t have a leash, a bowl, or even food. It was scary, it was stressful, and I remember thinking, “Why isn’t there just a pack with everything I need?”


So, I built one.

What Is a StarterBud™?


Each StarterBud™ is a professionally selected, ready-to-go gear pack built for real-life puppy parenting. No fluff. No filler. Just what works.


Every product has been handpicked by our founder—a nationally certified dog trainer, three-time puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and experienced dog handler with over 20 years of hands-on canine experience. This is the exact setup used across eight personal dogs, now available to help you start off strong.

The Mission: Buy 5, Donate 1


For every five StarterBuds sold, we donate one to a dog in need through our rescue partners. Our goal is to improve adoption experiences and reduce return rates by setting new pet parents up for success with the right tools from day one.


We believe that preparation makes permanence.


Transparency Matters

To ensure full transparency, all donations are currently tracked directly on Dont Be Breedist. Over time, this donation program will transition to our future nonprofit, Healing Hearts and Paws Foundation, where it will grow into a full-scale outreach initiative for dogs and their humans in need.

Looking ahead, we’re building out our nonprofit arm: Healing Hearts and Paws Foundation. Through this future initiative, we’ll donate StarterBud packs to women and families escaping traumatic situations—whether fleeing domestic violence, recovering from natural disasters, or rehoming for safety.


As someone living with complex PTSD, our founder understands firsthand the power of consistency, structure, and companionship. These backpacks don’t just prepare you for dog ownership—they offer a path to healing, stability, and hope.
